Matthew Mulnix is an alternative pop/rock musician from Lawrence, KS. Performing both originals and covers through the filter of coffee shop guitar and vocals, Matthew loves entertaining audiences with his honest, yet accessible live sets. Mulnix has released two albums of original pop/rock music, including The Truth Exposed in 2013, and Relative North in 2017. His music has been featured in national publications such as Substream Magazine and The Alternative.

Mulnix was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a juvenile form of Macular Degeneration, at age 9 in 2001. With sheet music reading being cumbersome for a visually impaired student, Matthew elected to pursue public school music education by ear, rather than sight. With his background in music theory and ear training, Mulnix provides services to growing musicians, including private music instruction, songwriting and arrangement, and record production at his project studio in Lawrence, KS. Mulnix is founder of Lawrence Songwriter Showcase, instructor of the Ukulele Orchestra at Lawrence Arts Center, Instructor & Director of Youth Ensembles at Americana Music Academy, and bass guitarist for country artist Kyle Austin. Receiving Best of Lawrence 2020 & 2021 in the category of Private Music Lessons Instructor, Matthew loves teaching students of any skill level, utilizing music theory and ear training to help musicians achieve their goals.

Matthew would love to work with you on songwriting, practical music theory, voice, ukulele, guitar, bass guitar, music production, as the director of our Youth Ensemble Program or any combination of these interest areas. Being a part of Americana Music Academy since 2016, Matthew believes in the mission of the organization, and participates in the non-profit through private and group lessons, workshops, recitals, concerts, and community engagement.
